Hammerheads take 3rd at Todd Miller 7's!
Posted by LittleBigMan on Saturday, June 27, 2009 (17:21:37) (11 reads)
The Hammerheads have opened the day with 2 wins in pool play, seeing off Brevard (26-19), USF (19-12), and Ave Maria in the pool stages. The Hammerheads faced off against FAU in the consolation final, and came back from a 2 try deficit at the half to win with 3 tries. Congrats guys, way to get the job done!
On behalf of the team that traveled to Sanford FL for the Todd Miller 7s, I’ve got a few words: Great weekend boys! We didn’t win the tournament final, but won the consolation final for third place and took home ten bronze medals. The young boys who played in the cons final showed heart, desire and guts to come back from a 17-5 deficit at halftime with little energy reserves left to outplay and outscore a tough FAU side. Hats off to:
Shane Young (el Capitan)(bad shoulder, but taking it into contact again and again)
Garret Coe (next in charge)(see below for more news)
Eddie McDonald (“I’m never drinking again”...until the boat race at the social)
Bryan Vince(set up Eddie’s bronze clinching try by being patient)
Bumper Hay(there’s a sniper in the trees)
Ryan Young(the non-closer)
Aaron Greenfield(I don’t play 7s)
Johnny Lindsey(can juke short, fat guys)
Lazer
Joe
Adam MacKenzie and Dwayne Johnson(whores for others)
Austin Luby(whore for us)
Old man O’Donnell(I’ll play til my body breaks)
Everyone needs to remind Daragh what club he should be playing for.
Another fantastic achievement from the weekend: Garret Coe has been selected by the Rugby Academy of FL to play for their select U23 side at the Cape Fear 7s tourney this weekend. He will proudly represent himself, his team, FL Rugby Academy and the Hammerheads the best he can at an elite level at one of the showcase 7s tournaments on the East Coast. I’m personally sponsoring him financially for the $150 travel fee as I know how special higher level rugby can be and this is his first chance at his young age to experience the next level. If anyone would like to pitch in for his cause, contact me when you can(any donations beyond his fee will go to our club funds).
Yours in Rugby,
Pat

The Hammerheads travelled to Winter Haven last Saturday with 2 sides wearing our Jerseys. The second being comprised of a mix of Naples/Tallahassee/Ave Maria. Thanks to Aaron Eckert and Steve McDonald for helping to sort out the second side.
First Side Participants & Results:
Bumper - 3 Tries
Taylor
Eddie M - 3 Tries, Great Overall Defensive Play
Nick L - 1 assist
Johnny
Ryan Y - 1 assist
Anthony (Lazer) (mother was a Lady Hammerhead)
Shane Y - 1 Try
Jeremy K - 3 Tries, 1 assist
Ryan S - 4 Tries
Garrett - 3 Tries, 1 assist
The team played well through pool play and in the Semi Final vs. UCF. It was a tough final vs. a good Daytona side that was able to get a small advantage at the half and put through a couple easy tries while we were attempting to get back some momentum. Daytona won the Gold with a 22-7 win. The Hammerheads finished 3-1 on the day.
The second side had a tough time struggling with inexperience and new faces. They broke out in a conci match against Krewe II. Great effort by all...
Special recognition to the supporters (Nick's harem and Mrs. Shore to be). Also special recognition to Steve C for doing well in his first day of rugby and scoring his first try!!!!
